Water towers were often used during the steam train era to provide water for the trains. Water towers can also store water for other industrial/commercial uses and some also hold potable water. The water tower in Drumheller is situated not far from Railway Avenue. The design and structure of the Drumheller water tower suggests that it is for potable water.
